Brief  History of  the Richmond Ski Club

Established in 1954, the Richmond Ski Club (“RSC” or the “Club”) has been providing fun, travel and friendship to Central Virginia winter sports enthusiasts for over 60 years.  In addition to snow sports, the Club offers a variety of warm weather activities, including biking, tubing, camping, and socials.

From the early meetings that shaped the vision and mission of the Club, to current monthly RSC Board meetings, the Club brings together people who enjoy winter sports in the Central Virginia area, while promoting skiing courtesy and safety.

The Richmond Ski Club remains true to its founding purposes:

  •      Encourage participation in winter sports such as skiing and related activities
  •      Educate and inform the membership about current developments in winter sports
  •      Work toward the improvement of skiing safety and proficiency
  •      Cooperate with regional, national, and international ski organizations
  •     Organize trips to popular North American and global ski destinations, with emphasis upon good fellowship among skiers and all       snow sports enthusiasts.

Over the years, the Club has organized trips to a variety of destinations in North America, South America and Europe. Many of the trips that RSC runs are suitable for all level skiers and riders; however, some trips may be more appropriate for intermediate, advanced and experts.

As interest in racing increased, the Club introduced a competition program in 1977. The Club races are often run in conjunction with NASTAR (NAtional STandard Race) or similar types of events to provide RSC members with an opportunity to compete and meet ski enthusiasts from differing areas of the country.

As a non-profit organization, the Club is involved with local community activities, and its members volunteer to support sports-related charities.  RSC members have been active with the National Ski Patrol at several regional resorts, and support the Wintergreen Adaptive Sports program, which hosts the Wounded Warrior weekend for soldiers and their families.

RSC is an all-volunteer organization and new members are encouraged to participate in and assist with organizing the Club’s monthly meetings (October – March), other events and activities, happy hours, and trips.  Come join the Club and see what it’s all about!
